In Abortion, Poems

1

The Contents

Her uterus is
all she thought of when they said,
‘We’ll evacuate …’
How could she know they also
meant the contents of her heart?

2

The Mitigation

Surely, she’s guilty,
but not only … not mostly.
Doctors and nurses
lied about the life she hid.
Let children choose their curses.

3

The Haunting

Strangely, her sin,
the aborting of her child,
was her salvation.
For the darling little ghost
drove her to Jesus at last.
